Creating a Thing is taking too long
What happens when you click Create Thing, what the Try again message means, and why trying again never makes a second copy.
On this page
Creating a Thing normally takes under a second: you click Create Thing (or a template, or Pro mode: blank workspace), the button shows a spinner, and the editor opens with your new Thing. This page explains what you might see when that takes longer.
Symptom
- The button keeps spinning for several seconds.
- The New Thing dialog says Creating your Thing is taking longer than usual and the button now reads Try again.
- It says We couldn't reach Solid Vibes to create your Thing.
What is going on
The app waits up to 15 seconds for your Thing to be created. If the answer hasn't arrived by then, usually because the connection dropped or is very slow, it stops waiting and tells you, instead of leaving the spinner running.
Your Thing may still have been created on our side. That is why Try again is safe: it asks for the same Thing again, so you land in the editor with the one that was made, never with a second copy.
When the Thing is created but the editor is slow to open, the page loads the editor directly after a few seconds.
What to do
- Click Try again. If the first attempt went through, the editor opens with that Thing.
- If it keeps failing, check your connection (another site, or reload the page) and try once more.
- Still stuck? Open Projects: a Thing that was created shows up in All Things, and you can open it from there.
Good to know
- Going Back from the editor shows the page you came from as you left it, minus the spinner: the New Thing dialog is closed and ready for the next one.
- If you're at your plan's limit, the dialog shows the ways forward (free a slot, make it public, or upgrade) instead of trying. See Plans and limits.
